Turning 80 This Year

Maya Angelou: The legendary poet and author earned an Emmy nomination for a role in the landmark television mini-series Roots in 1977. In 1993, she recited her poem, "On the Pulse of Morning" at President Bill Clinton's inauguration, the first poet to do so since Robert Frost at JFK's in 1961.

Jack Germond: Political journalist, most famous for his tenure on "The McLaughlin Group", of which he was an original member. Remember SNL's wicked parody where John Goodman played him?

Hal Prince: The legendary Broadway director/producer, he has won 21 Tony Awards. Productions he has been associated with include: The Pajama Game; Damn Yankees; West Side Story; A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum; Fiddler on the Roof; Cabaret; Follies; Sweeney Todd and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Jack Larson: Jimmy Olson from the classic series "Adventures of Superman". Also appeared as a bartender in "Superman Returns" (2006), as well as in episodes of the shows, "Superboy" and "Lois and Clark". Was also in an American Express commercial with Jerry Seinfeld and Superman.

Pernell Roberts: Adam Cartwright on Bonanza, and Trapper John, M.D. And Billy Joe Babcock on a famous episode of "The Odd Couple", featuring a square dance.

John Nash: A Beautiful Mind

Paul Dooley: My favorite roles of his were as fathers on HBO sitcoms: a gay Jewish one ("Dream on") and a heterosexual Christian one (Cheryl's pop on "Curb Your Enthusiasm")

Gordie Howe

Eddie Fisher: Probably today, if known at all, would be as the father of Carrie and Joely Fisher, though even to those who remember him as a top pop singer of his day, might recall him more for his dumping of wife Debbie Reynolds for Elizabeth Taylor, and his subsequently getting kicked to the curb by Taylor for Richard Burton.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian

William Kennedy —Pulitzer Prize-winer. Kennedy taught creative writing and journalism as an instructor from 1974 to 1982 at SUNY Albany.

Whitey Ford

Patrick McGoohan: Number Six on The Prisoner

Dr. Ruth Westheimer: The diminuative (Four foot seven inches) sexual psycho-babble master caused a sensation when NY's WNYC-FM debuted her frank radio show in the early 80's.

Dr. Joyce Brothers: Speaking of psycho-babble...Here's the original media darling She's only 80? Holy Jesus! I would have said 90.. Brothers gained fame in 1955 by winning The $64,000 Question game show, on which she appeared as an expert in the subject area of boxing. It should be noted that the game was rigged against her favor.

Walter Mondale: Immortalized by the SUNY softball team "Minnesota for Mondale", the former VP lost 49 states to the Great Communicator in 1984.

Tom Lehrer: Legendary political satirist
